Traffic Police Department Announces Reinforced Road‑Safety Operations
On 12 September, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) of Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security announced that it will reinforce road‑safety operations in Dong Nai province by forming two joint task forces with the provincial police. The units will focus patrols, inspections and violation handling on National Highway 1A and National Highway 20, the province’s most heavily trafficked corridors.
Accident Statistics for the First Eight Months of 2026
Official data show that in the first eight months of 2026 Dong Nai recorded 641 traffic accidents, resulting in 432 deaths and 306 injuries. This marks an increase of 56 crashes, two more fatalities and 78 additional injuries compared with the same period in 2025. Road‑traffic incidents accounted for 639 of the crashes, causing 431 deaths and 305 injuries. On Highway 1A there were 71 accidents with 53 fatalities and 42 injuries; on Highway 20, 42 accidents left 26 dead and 19 wounded.
Task Force Operations
The task forces, operating from 15 September to 14 October, will target drivers of passenger cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles and other road vehicles. Enforcement will prioritize offences such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, lane violations, illegal overtaking, failure to obey traffic signals, improper lane changes, wrong‑way driving and use of mobile devices while driving. For commercial transport, checks will focus on over‑loading, excess passenger numbers, non‑compliance with journey‑recording devices and other safety‑related infractions.
Additional Measures and Evaluation
CSGT will combine overt patrols with undercover operations, leverage the province’s traffic‑camera network and monitor vehicle‑tracking data to identify violations in real time. The department also plans intensified public‑awareness campaigns, technical upgrades, and a survey of accident‑prone spots to recommend corrective measures to local authorities. Results will be evaluated after the operation to shape future road‑safety strategies.
