On the morning of September 12, 2024, a ceremony at the Báo Thanh Niên hall marked the distribution of a 1 billion VND scholarship fund to 100 orphaned students facing financial hardship. The program, titled "Cùng con đi tiếp cuộc đời", celebrated its fifth anniversary and was co‑organized by Báo Thanh Niên and electronics retailer Điện Máy Xanh, which provided the full amount. Each recipient received a 10 million VND grant, timed to coincide with the start of the school term when tuition and related expenses peak.
Among the beneficiaries was Hoàng Minh Gia Huân, a first‑year student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Engineering. Huân, whose father died during the Covid‑19 pandemic, explained that his semester fees total roughly 23 million VND, making the grant crucial for covering the first‑term tuition and reducing his mother’s financial burden. He also expressed plans to seek part‑time work from his second year onward.
Another recipient, Tào Quảng Doanh, also a freshman, studies tourism at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. Doanh lost his mother in 2014 and his father to Covid‑19, and now lives alone in Ho Chi Minh City while pursuing his degree. Speaking on behalf of the cohort, he thanked the donors, emphasizing the importance of societal support for vulnerable youth.
The ceremony highlighted the broader impact of the scholarship, offering not only monetary relief but also a message of hope and solidarity for orphaned children navigating higher education in Vietnam.
