Leadership Handover at Vingroup
On 12 September, Vingroup announced a sweeping leadership handover within its flagship subsidiaries. Pham Nhat Quấn Anh, 33, the eldest son of founder Pham Nhat Vương and Pham Thu Hương, was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of VinFast globally and of VinFast Vietnam, while also retaining the CEO role at VinMetal. Quấn Anh, a Singapore Management University graduate, has risen through VinFast since 2015, holding senior posts in sales, marketing, production and corporate planning before becoming Vice Chairman in 2021. His younger brother, Pham Nhat Minh Hoàng, 26, was named CEO of GSM globally and of GSM Vietnam, succeeding his mother who remains on the board. Nguyen Quoc Tuan was elevated to Chairman of GSM worldwide, replacing Pham Thu Hương. The transition comes as Vingroup climbs to rank 340 in TIME's World’s Best Companies 2026, its first appearance on the list.
Broader Trend Among Vietnam’s Family‑Owned Giants
The succession mirrors a broader trend among Vietnam’s family‑owned giants. At Novaland, 44‑year‑old Bui Cao Nhat Quấn, son of former chairman Bui Thanh Nhơn, secured a five‑year term as board chair. REE appointed Nguyen Ngoc Thai Binh, son of former chairwoman Nguyen Thi Mai Thanh, as CEO and legal representative. In banking, 34‑year‑old Tran Hung Huy has led ACB as chairman since 2013, guiding the bank to a 13% rise in net interest income to VND 14.773 trillion in the first half of the year.
Forbes estimates Pham Nhat Vuong’s personal wealth at US$37.9 billion, down $409 million, while Pham Thu Hương holds US$4.3 billion, together accounting for about $42.2 billion. The coordinated handover underscores Vingroup’s strategy to nurture internal talent and ensure continuity as its automotive and mobility businesses expand globally.
