National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasts Warning
The National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasts (NCHMF) warned on 15 September that seven northern provinces – Sơn La, Phú Thọ, Lào Cai, Quảng Ninh, Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh – face heightened flash‑flood and landslide danger after forecast rains of 150‑250 mm, with isolated totals exceeding 350 mm. Southern districts of Phú Thọ, Hưng Yên, Ninh Bình and Thanh Hóa are expected to receive 150‑250 mm, while other areas may see 80‑150 mm, some locations over 250 mm. Quảng Ninh, Lạng Sơn and parts of Tuyên Quang and Thái Nguyên could get 50‑100 mm, with peaks above 150 mm.
In Hanoi
In Hanoi, convective clouds will produce heavy showers this afternoon, delivering more than 50 mm locally and risking urban flooding, reduced visibility and traffic disruption during peak hours. The same pattern persists on 16 September, with potential rainfall over 200 mm in Hanoi, southern Phú Thọ, Hưng Yên, Ninh Bình, Thanh Hóa and Nghệ An, and short bursts that could exceed 100 mm in three hours.
Southern Vietnam
Southern Vietnam sees scattered rain and thunderstorms on 15‑16 September, gradually diminishing by daybreak. A tropical convergence zone is shifting northward, and from 17 September onward heavier rain is forecast for the western coast, northern Tây Ninh, Đồng Nai and western Lâm Đồng. Elevated tide levels are expected to linger through 16 September, heightening flood risk in low‑lying riverside districts.

Meteorological authorities urge residents nationwide to prepare for flash floods, landslides, strong winds, lightning and possible road closures as the monsoon surge continues across the country.
