The Airport Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) released an updated progress report on the third component of Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai. As of early September, four of the 16 major construction contracts are finished and the remaining twelve are actively underway, representing about 79.46% of the total contract value, excluding contingency funds.
The government and the Ministry of Construction require the airport to achieve technical operation in September and full commercial service by 31 December. To meet this, ACV plans to complete essential terminal works by 30 November, enabling limited operations from 1 December. The west wing of the passenger terminal, slated to handle an interim capacity of roughly 15 million passengers annually (versus a design capacity of 25 million), will be prioritized, while the east wing will continue construction beyond November.
Key Contracts
Contract 5.10 – the passenger terminal – has reached 77.37% overall completion, with structural work at 82.93%, electrical systems at 94%, and equipment installation at 70.39%. Contract 4.8 – internal airport traffic and technical infrastructure – stands at 76.3% and includes the main access road from Gate 1 to the terminal, targeted for completion by 31 October. This package faces labor shortages and adverse weather.
ACV reports that eight of the twelve ongoing contracts are on schedule, while four critical packages, including 4.8 and 5.10, are being closely monitored. The authority has ordered contractors to boost manpower, extend working hours, and provide daily progress updates. Minimum operational requirements include at least one domestic and one international check‑in island, connectivity for domestic carriers and one international airline, and 50% installation of flight‑information displays, CCTV and Wi‑Fi systems.
