On 15 September, Minister Lê Mạnh Hùng signed a decision redefining the duties of the ministry’s top leadership. He will continue to oversee the entire ministry, direct strategic planning, personnel management, legal affairs, international economic integration, and the energy sector, including state management of oil‑gas and electricity.
Deputy Ministers
Nguyễn Việt Sơn will handle energy (excluding electricity), focusing on energy saving, international cooperation, oil‑gas, coal and other fuels, as well as industry, chemicals, technology, digital transformation, safety and environmental protection.
Trương Thanh Hoài is charged with electricity and power regulation, leading the Power Agency, Energy Institute and major national projects, and also overseeing industry, geology, minerals and defence‑related industry.
Nguyễn Sinh Nhật Tân will manage trade, covering import‑export, e‑commerce, domestic market, competition, consumer protection, trade defence and international trade relations, and will serve as the ministry’s spokesperson.
Phan Thị Thắng will supervise planning, investment, finance, enterprise management, human‑resource development and anti‑corruption efforts.
Senior Officials
In a parallel move, the ministry appointed 35 senior officials: seven senior directors—including Lê Triệu Dũng (Foreign Market Development and Multilateral Trade) and Bùi Huy Sơn (Planning‑Finance)—and 28 deputy directors across eight units.
Reorganization
The appointments support the reorganization mandated by Decree 351, which trims the ministry to 21 functional units while expanding oversight to geology, minerals and industrial zones.
Deputy Minister Trương Thanh Hoài said the changes are not merely administrative but a structural transformation to meet rising demands for digitalisation, green economy, renewable energy and trade defence.
