Khánh Hòa province intensified flood‑prevention measures on 14 September by dispatching excavators, bulldozers and suction machines to clear a series of small, vegetation‑clogged waterways.
The operation focused on the Kim Bồng, Bà Vệ and Quán Trường rivers that run through the Tây Nha Trang ward, as well as several ancillary canals and ditches in the Vĩnh Trung, Vĩnh Thạnh, Vĩnh Ngọc and former Ngọc Hiệp communes.
Local authorities organised multiple rounds of clearing, removing reeds, accumulated trash and overgrown trees that had previously obstructed water flow. Photographs taken on the day show the riverbanks before and after the cleanup, with the water surface now visibly clearer. In the Lư Cấm to Vĩnh Hội stretch, dense vegetation that once choked the channel was fully cleared, restoring a free‑flowing current.
Residents, such as 56‑year‑old Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huong of Vĩnh Diêm, recalled the severe flooding of 2025, which left many streets and homes submerged. She noted that the pre‑emptive actions—bridge and culvert inspections, dredging, and a comprehensive environmental sanitation campaign—have boosted community confidence ahead of the upcoming rainy season.
The ward also conducted a targeted cleanup at the source of the Quán Trường river, focusing on the Rọc Dài overflow area in former Vĩnh Thạnh. Volunteers from neighbourhoods Phú Trung 1, Phú Trung 2, Phú Bình, Phú Vinh 2 and Phú Thạnh participated alongside municipal crews. Officials urged that such maintenance become a regular practice to sustain river health and protect residents from future flood threats.
