Proposed 2027 Lunar New Year Holiday Schedule
On 11 September 2026, Nguyen Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor at the Ministry of Home Affairs, announced the proposed 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday schedule. The plan, submitted to the Prime Minister, grants civil servants a five‑day statutory break—two days before and two days after Tet—augmented by two compensatory days because the holiday coincides with a weekend. Consequently, a continuous seven‑day holiday will run from Thursday, 4 February 2027 (the 28th day of the lunar month) to Wednesday, 10 February 2027.
For private‑sector workers, employers may choose one of three arrangements: 1 day at the end of the lunar year plus 4 days at the start of the new year (5‑11 February), 2 days plus 3 days (4‑10 February), or 3 days plus 2 days (3‑9 February). The ministry also proposed a four‑day National Day break from 2 to 5 September 2027, and a shift of the Vietnam Culture Day holiday from Monday 23 November to Saturday 28 November 2026 to create a seamless four‑day weekend (21‑24 November). Employers must notify staff of holiday plans at least 30 days in advance and provide make‑up days when statutory holidays fall on regular weekends. Vietnam currently observes 12 paid public holidays, including Tet, National Day and Culture Day.
Massive Flock of Birds in Phúc Điền Village
In a separate event, early on 11 September 2026, residents of Phúc Điền village, Thạch Xuân commune, Hà Tĩnh province, reported a massive flock of roughly a thousand white‑plumed birds, likely gulls, descending onto freshly harvested rice fields.
