A recent iSeeCars investigation, which examined data from more than 395 million vehicles across the United States, identified the brands and models most likely to remain reliable after 250,000 miles (about 400,000 km). The study covered 33 manufacturers and calculated the probability that a vehicle would still perform well beyond the 400,000‑km mark. Overall, only 5.4% of all cars reached that threshold, a decline from 8.6% the previous year.
Japanese marques outperformed their rivals.
Toyota emerged as the clear leader, with 19.7% of its models projected to exceed 400,000 km—roughly 3.7 times the industry average. Lexus followed with 14.4% and Honda posted 13.3%, both also well above the market mean.
When the analysis was narrowed to individual models, six Toyota vehicles dominated the top ten list.

Karl Brauer, iSeeCars senior analyst, noted that while the overall likelihood of reaching 400,000 km remains modest, Japanese models—especially those from Toyota’s portfolio—show a markedly higher probability, offering a decisive advantage for consumers seeking long‑term durability. The findings underscore Toyota’s reputation for building vehicles that can endure extensive mileage without compromising performance.
