Between September 16 and the following week, authorities began clearing vegetation along Phạm Văn Đồng Road to prepare the site for the new three‑level interchange that will link the second ring road (Vành đai 2) with major arterial routes. A total of 186 trees located near the Phạm Văn Đồng‑Kha Vạn Cân‑Linh Đông intersection, spanning the Hiệp Bình and Thủ Đức wards, were affected. Of these, 45 trees deemed healthy enough were uprooted, placed in a nursery for six months and slated for re‑planting; the remaining 141 were cut down because they were damaged, diseased or failed technical standards. The work, coordinated by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Department and the project’s investors, also involved securing the cleared zones with warning ropes and temporary fencing to ensure safety.
The interchange will feature an upper flyover with six to eight lanes, a secondary two‑lane bridge for traffic turning toward Tan Son Nhat Airport, and a lower two‑lane tunnel directing vehicles onto National Highway 1. The overall project segment stretches about 2.5 km, connecting the Bình Thái roundabout to Phạm Văn Đồng, with a budget exceeding VND 4,500 billion. Construction of the multi‑tier node is expected to finish land clearance within 10‑15 days, after which relocation of utilities and traffic‑flow planning will commence. Traffic management measures, including lane diversions and phased flow control, have been arranged to minimise disruption on this key eastern gateway of the city.
