The Ho Chi Minh City Command’s Remains Recovery Team has continued its systematic excavation at Le Thi Rieng Park, extending the search area in Zone A and processing more than 300 cubic metres of soil. Using three excavators, a bulldozer and two 3.5‑ton trucks, the unit uncovered 11 additional remains in Trench 2 on 8 September; eight of those bodies were accompanied by personal artifacts, according to the first report, while a later update cited seven artifacts among the same set.
Cumulative figures show a steady rise in recoveries. From 23 June to 12 September, 616 remains had been retrieved, including 287 with accompanying items. By the end of 13 September, the total reached 627 remains, of which 294 bore artifacts. The breakdown reveals 594 individual graves and 33 bodies from eight collective burial sites—two in Zone A and six in Zone B.
The discovery of Trench 2, situated to the left of Trench 3 when viewed from Cách Mạng Tháng Tám road, provides crucial data for cross‑referencing historical burial maps and documents, helping authorities understand the layout of the wartime graves. On the same day, cadets from the Southern Military School visited the site to lay wreaths and pay respects, reinforcing the educational and commemorative purpose of the operation. The ongoing effort aims to ensure no remains or artifacts are left unaccounted for, preserving the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for national liberation.
