On 14 September, the Ho Chi Minh City Command continued its systematic exhumation of fallen soldiers at Lê Thị Riêng Park, formerly the Đô Thành‑Chí Hòa cemetery. Working in trench 2 of zone A, crews processed more than 300 cubic metres of soil, employing three excavators, a bulldozer and two 3.5‑ton trucks. The effort yielded five additional sets of remains, two of which were accompanied by personal artifacts.
Since the operation began on 23 June, a total of 632 sets of war‑dead have been recovered, including 296 with identifiable items. Of these, 599 were found at isolated locations, while 33 were retrieved from eight collective burial sites—two in zone A and six in zone B. The search is driven by the conclusion of Vice‑Prime Minister Phạm Thị Thanh Trà’s verification conference, which confirmed the presence of mass graves linked to the 1968 Tet Offensive (Tết Mậu Thân).
Heavy rain and thunderstorms reported by the National Weather Center have hampered excavation, but personnel have persisted, carefully documenting each find to aid future identification. Historical records and eyewitness testimony suggest that hundreds of soldiers perished in the 1968 campaign and were interred in the park. The command plans to broaden the search area further and will update the tally daily as work proceeds.
