Trường Giang apologises after old clips spark social‑media backlash

In early September, Vietnamese comedian and TV host Trường Giang surged to the top of Google Trends, with search terms such as “Trường Giang sinh năm bao nhiêu” rising 300%, “lùm xùm Trường Giang250% and “tin tức Trường Giang100%. The spike was triggered by the sudden resurfacing of several old clips on social media, including his on‑stage proposal to wife Nhã Phương during an awards ceremony, interactions with fellow contestants on game shows, and moments that some viewers deemed disrespectful toward colleagues. The renewed exposure generated a wave of mixed reactions: many netizens posted negative comments, while others defended him. Trường Giang, who has a Facebook fan page with over 5.7 million followers, remained silent after the clips re‑appeared; his last public post before the controversy dated September 3.

Amid the growing debate, Nhã Phương shared affectionate photos of the couple, which many interpreted as support. Within a week, Trường Giang broke his silence by publishing a lengthy statement on his fan page. He acknowledged past shortcomings, saying he had sometimes acted without enough tact or maturity, and offered a sincere apology to anyone he had hurt. He emphasized that the pain caused cannot be erased by words alone, but he accepts responsibility for his actions. The comedian also asked that former co‑workers not be dragged into the controversy and expressed a desire to move forward.

Reflecting on a 20‑year career that now includes directing, producing and starring in the film “Nhà ba tôi một phòng,” Trường Giang said he aims to learn from past mistakes, focus on his family, and regain the trust of his audience. He concluded by thanking fans for their continued support.
